What Does Moderation Mean in Food?

How to Eat in Moderation for Busy Moms

Okay, ladies. Not everything you eat should be thought about so much. We have a million things on our minds, do we really need to stress about food too? A simple rule with everything, keep moderation in mind. We've heard this countless times: eat in moderation. But what does moderation mean in food? Should I eat a cookie every day? After all, I'm only having one cookie, and that’s moderation, right?

Here’s the thing: as busy moms, we often don’t realize when or what we're eating. We might find ourselves snacking on our kids' leftovers, eating at odd hours, or indulging in snacks before meals. By the time we sit down for a meal, we might be too full from all the snacking throughout the day.

It's essential to understand that there are three meals each day, plus snacks in between. When you focus on having those three meals properly—by including some type of bread/grain or rice, protein, and vegetables, along with a piece of fruit—you might be surprised at how satisfied you feel afterward. When your plate is well-balanced, you may not even crave that snack afterwards.

For instance, at breakfast, make sure to have your slice of toast, a hearty serving of protein, and veggies on your plate, and keep fruit handy. Many of us with a sweet tooth crave something sweet right after a meal, so having fruit readily available can satisfy that craving. Whether it’s grapes, an apple, a peach, or an orange, just make it convenient.

Life doesn’t have to be complicated when it comes to food. We often overthink it. The same foods you want to eat should also be what you offer your children. If you’re thinking about eating healthier while your kids eat whatever, or vice versa, reconsider that approach. It’s easier to cook when everyone is eating the same meals, and it ensures that everyone, including your kids, is getting the nutrients they need.

The same goes for your spouse. You can easily adapt meals for different tastes by adjusting seasonings. For example, if your kids don’t like spicy chicken, you can prepare a few pieces with a spicier rub just for yourself or your husband.

It’s all about making meal times simpler and more nutritious for the whole family. Let me know in the comments below what you do to make meal times simpler!
