Why Working Parents Need a Time Audit — And How to Do One

If I asked you where your time goes… could you answer honestly?

Most working parents can’t. And it’s not their fault — the days blur together. That’s why a time audit is one of the most powerful (and eye-opening) tools I use and teach in the Time Mastery course

What Is a Time Audit?

A time audit is a one-day or one-week exercise where you track exactly how you spend your time — without judgment. Just awareness.

How to Do It:

  1. Pick a weekday that reflects your usual schedule

  2. Use a paper tracker, your notes app, or a template

  3. Every 30–60 minutes, jot down what you’re doing

  4. Be honest — even the phone scroll or random snack break counts

  5. At the end of the day, review with these questions:

  6. What drained me?

  7. What felt useful?

  8. Where did I waste time out of habit or avoidance?

Why It Matters:

You can’t change what you don’t see. A time audit helps you spot patterns, reclaim lost hours, and make tiny adjustments that save your energy.

It’s not about perfection — it’s about permission. And that’s the first step toward real time freedom.
